What have I learnt in this module?
Through the first assignment, I systematically learned the principles of design, including balance, contrast, rhythm, proportion, and unity. These principles apply not only to paintings and artworks, but are also widely used in product design, architecture, and visual communication. By finding photos that meet these principles, I have a deeper understanding of how to discover and apply design aesthetics in daily life.

In the second assignment, I chose Van Gogh's "Night Cafe" for analysis. This allowed me to explore the emotional expression and stories behind the artwork in more depth. I learned that Van Gogh created a warm and oppressive atmosphere through the use of color and light and shadow, expressing his complex emotions about night life. This made me realize that art is not just a visual enjoyment, but also a transmission of emotions and thoughts. And I know how to explore the story behind the painter to understand the emotional expression of his painting at the time.

The third assignment challenged my creativity. I needed to draw an original work based on "Night Cafe" and give it my own story. This made me understand that the process of artistic creation is not just imitation, but a rethinking of the original work and the expression of personal emotions. Although my final work is not very related to the painting I chose, the emotions expressed in it are similar. At the beginning, I was just crazy about how to get close to the original painting, so I used many elements from it, but in the end I found that it doesn’t have to be the same. As long as the emotional expression is similar, it is also a type of artistic creation. So this creation made me think more deeply about my artistic style, and it also made me more confident to try different ways of expression.

What did I enjoy the most?
My favorite assignment was the second one, which was to explore the works of Van Gogh. This not only made me appreciate the artwork more, but also gave me a deeper understanding of the artist's emotional world. Van Gogh's use of color and light and shadow was fascinating, and the stories behind his works made me feel the close connection between art and life. In this process, I learned how to appreciate and interpret a painting from an analytical perspective, rather than just staying at the intuitive feeling.

What did I not enjoy the most?
If I had to say what my least favorite part was, it would probably be the creative process of the third assignment. Although the final work gave me a sense of accomplishment, I felt a great challenge in the early stages of the creation. I had to create my own painting based on Van Gogh's style and give it an independent story, which made me feel overwhelmed at first. I needed to keep trying and revising, and even overturned the original idea several times. However, it was this challenge that taught me how to find inspiration in difficulties and made me respect the process of artistic creation more.

What have I learnt about myself through this module?
This module made me realize that I am very interested in the emotional expression of artworks. I like to explore the stories behind the paintings, understand the painter's emotions, and think about how to convey emotions through the pictures. At the same time, I also found that I still have a lot to improve in creative expression, especially in the transition from appreciation to creation, I still need more practice and thinking.

What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?
What has changed is my understanding of design principles and art appreciation. I used to judge whether a painting was good-looking more intuitively, but now I can analyze its composition, color and expression from a design perspective. In addition, my observation and critical thinking have also improved. When appreciating works of art, I will be more proactive in thinking about the meaning behind it.
What has not changed is that I still have a strong interest in art and am willing to continue to learn and explore new ways of creation. Although the creative process is still a challenge for me, I still like to express my ideas through painting and design.

What are my aspirations?
My wish is to be able to express my creativity more freely and continue to improve in design and painting. I hope to be able to better apply the design principles I have learned in the future to improve my creative ability, and I also hope to have a deeper understanding of different styles of art. In addition, I also hope to have the opportunity to try and learn more art media, such as digital painting or mixed media creation, to diversify my expression.
