TITLE OF ARTWORK: Drifting on the edge of dreams

ARTISTS NAME: Fann Wong Jing En

MEDIUM: tablet painting

MEANING/PURPOSE OF THE DESIGN:

            In this painting, there is an endless blue vortex, and the flowing light and shadows cover a lonely boat. A person stands quietly on it, as if standing on the edge of a dream. Van Gogh's life is like the lonely boatman in the painting, drifting around in the real world, and he can never find his true belonging. In his childhood, he was sensitive and sentimental. As an adult, he tried to become a missionary, but was rejected by the church because of his over-devotion. Finally, he devoted himself to painting. He struggled in the world, like drifting in the boundless ocean, and the paintbrush was his only oar. He once wrote in a letter: "The night makes me feel the color of life more than the day." He looked for light in the darkness, just like the gold in the painting that was vaguely visible in the boundless blue ocean. The man in the painting did not shout or struggle, he just stood there and made himself part of this vast vortex. Is this a kind of transcendence, or a helpless acceptance?

DESIGN PRINCIPLES IN MY DESIGN：

Sense of space: 

The flowing lines in the picture create a strong visual guide, driving the viewer's eyes to flow from the left to the right of the picture, creating a deep sense of space and dynamic effect.

Color application:

Mainly blue and golden yellow, the contrast between cold and warm enhances the layering of the picture. The blue brings a sense of mystery and depth, while the golden embellishment is like starlight, adding a dreamy atmosphere.

Contrast:

The light and shadow contrast in the picture is obvious, especially the characters and boats adopt a minimalist design, which contrasts sharply with the complex and flowing background, making the subject more prominent.

Blank space:

The character design is minimalist, without too many details, but it enhances the symbolic meaning of the picture, allowing the viewer to freely interpret emotions and artistic conception.

Dynamic and rhythm:

The flowing light and vortex-shaped elements in the picture enhance the sense of movement, making the picture full of rhythm, as if the whole space is flowing, giving people a surreal feeling.

ANSWER:

I think he wanted to move forward and surpass, but his boat oars could not support his thoughts and dragged him into the whirlpool, forcing him to move forward helplessly.
