WEEK 2 -
Lalin
1. Which part is act 1, act 2, act 3 respectively? Describe each act with ONE paragraph only.
Act 1 -Setup
The film begins gradually, in a deliberate pace, with an icy, stern color palette. The protagonist, as if ensnared by some experience or lost event, leads us through a lonely, solitary existence. Establishing the emotional void of the protagonist, sense of space, and state are the principal aims of this act.
Act 2 - Confrontation
The hero embarks on an inner journey following being provoked by a particular event (e.g., viewing a particular location or person). The film's beauty becomes abstract and symbolic. The protagonist is subjected to emotions, memories, and even fantasies. The inner conflict of the character is made evident since emotional highs and lows are more apparent despite intentional slowness.
Act 3 - Resolution
The hero finally confronts their inner pain after a sequence of subdued but profound psychological shifts. There is no overt "solution" put forth in the resolution, and yet we sense acceptance or liberation. It is an emotional purging, not a solution to the plot.
2. What is the inciting incident in the movie?
The main character somehow randomly stumbles upon something reminding him or her of the past (an individual, a movie, or a picture), causing him or her to relive past unaddressed emotions or old wounds.
3. What is the midpoint scene in the movie?
The main character experiences complete inner crisis; this may be a breakdown in an empty room or a dream in which they relive a pivotal moment. At this particular moment is the indication of the main character's failure to return to their "former" self.
4. What is the Climax scene in the movie?
The most subdued portion of the story is likely the climax, where the character finally confronts the suffering and ceases to turn away from it. The emotional tension is palpable whether or not the scene contains a silent glance, a deep breath, or merely tears flowing.
5.What is the theme of the movie?
Lalin's theme is loneliness, loss, and the power to heal oneself. It is the story of how individuals reconcile with their past, albeit at a slow and quiet pace.
Everything All At Once, Everywhere
1. Which part is act 1, act 2, act 3 respectively? Describe each act with ONE paragraph only.
Act 1- Establishing
We see Evelyn, a stressed-out Chinese-American mom overwhelmed by the exigencies of life. Her life is as chaotic as a jigsaw puzzle because her tax troubles are intensified by the strained relationship she shares with her husband and daughter. That is, until she is pulled into a multiverse by a parallel universe version of her husband. From there, the film shifts from domestic drama to action and science fiction silliness.
Act Two - Confrontation
Evelyn is forced to journey through other worlds, in which she encounters various incarnations of herself, including a pop singer, a giant rock, and a hot dog stand vendor. Her inner resentments, decision-making anxiety, and troubled parent-child relationship are exposed in this seemingly chaotic and comic scene. She discovers that her own denial and avoidance of existence are the true "enemy," rather than the outside Jobu Tupaki.
Act 3 - Resolution
Evelyn decides to combat nihilism with "kindness," learns to relinquish control, and grows to understand and accept her daughter's ideals. She finally breaks through to her daughter and affirms her unstable but true personality in the tearful scene outside the IRS office.
2. What is the inciting incident in the movie?
Waymond of the Alpha universe assumes control of Evelyn in the IRS building, revealing the issue of the multiverse and declaring her to be the only one "chosen one". Her world is demolished by this.
3. What is the midpoint scene in the movie?
Midpoint Scene Evelyn begins to accept this nihilistic, boundless reality as she "dies" within a different world and talks with Jobu within the "everything bagel" world. The turning point from passive response to active thought is here.
4. What is the Climax scene in the movie?
velyn "bests" all her opponents with love in the IRS staircase battle, parrying blows with sympathy and empathy. She finally confronts Joy in the parking lot and utters, "Even if it's pointless, I want to be with you."
5.What is the theme of the movie?
The overriding theme of the movie that runs throughout is the choice of love and relationship amidst disaster. A reminder that we have the ability to choose love, family, and comprehension even when it seems that the world has no meaning.
