MODULE INFORMATION BRIEF (MIB)

INSTRUCTABLE POSTER

fig1.1 Angela makes ravioli from Genova

For this project, I chose the video “Angela Makes Ravioli from Genova” as my reference because it shows the full process of making ravioli in a clear and continuous flow. By observing the video, I was able to understand how each step connects naturally, from preparing the dough to assembling and cooking. This helped me break down the process into simpler stages and translate it into a more structured and visual format for my infographic.

Reference

Before starting my design, I explored several existing infographic examples such as pizza and bibimbap. From these references, I noticed that effective infographics usually organize information into clear sections like ingredients, tools, and steps. They also use color, icons, and illustrations to guide the viewer’s attention. This observation helped me understand how visual hierarchy and structure can improve readability and make the information easier to follow.

Visual Exploration

During the visual exploration stage, I developed different illustrated elements such as ingredients, tools, and process steps. I experimented with how to represent actions like kneading, rolling, and cutting in a simple and understandable way. At the same time, I focused on maintaining a consistent illustration style so that all elements look visually connected and not fragmented.

Layout Development

I explored several layout options to find the most effective way to present the information. Initially, I tried arranging everything in a linear format, but it felt too crowded. I then developed a more structured layout by grouping related information together. In the final design, I placed the main visuals in the center and arranged supporting information around them, creating a clearer flow and improving the overall readability.

Digital Development

I used Adobe Illustrator to finalize my design. During this stage, I refined the composition by adjusting spacing, alignment, and proportions. I also applied my chosen color palette and typography to ensure consistency throughout the design. This process helped improve the clarity of the infographic and made the overall layout more balanced and visually appealing.

MOTION GRAPHIC

Reference

At the beginning, I looked for a reference to decide my style. I chose a simple and colorful illustration style because it is easier to animate and looks more engaging.

Color Palette

fig2.2 color palette

I used blue, beige, orange, and yellow as my main colors. These colors give a warm and friendly feeling that matches the baking theme.I kept the colors consistent so the overall design looks clean and not messy.

Frame-by-Frame Process

fig2.3 frame-by-frame process

I created my drawings in Procreate and separated them into layers. For some parts like cracking egg and kneading dough, I used frame-by-frame animation to make the movement smoother.

Sound & Final Touches

In the final stage, I added background music and simple sound effects to enhance the animation. The sound helps to make the video feel more engaging and less static. At the same time, I made sure the audio does not overpower the visuals.I also adjusted the timing between visuals and sound to ensure everything flows well together.

REFLECTION

For the instructable poster, I realized that the most time-consuming part was not the final design, but understanding how to simplify a real cooking process into clear visual steps. While watching the ravioli video, everything looked smooth and continuous, but when I tried to translate it into an infographic, I had to break it down carefully and decide what to include or simplify. I also went through a few layout changes because my initial idea felt too crowded. Through this process, I became more aware of how important structure and visual hierarchy are, not just for aesthetics but for making information easy to follow.

For the motion graphic, the process felt more experimental and enjoyable. Working with Procreate and frame-by-frame animation allowed me to explore movement in a more detailed way, especially for actions like cracking the egg and kneading the dough. It was not very difficult, but it required patience to make the motion feel smooth. I also learned that adding sound can really change the overall feeling of the animation, making it more lively and engaging. Overall, this project helped me connect static design with motion, and understand how small details in timing, movement, and sound can improve the final outcome.
